Rumor: Amazon Acquires UpNext for 3D Maps…Let The Battle Begin

According to GigaOM, Amazon is acquiring UpNext in hopes of using their database of cities and information to make a 3D map. There aren’t too many official details, but the acquisition will cost amazon around 2.5 million dollars. Neither Amazon nor UpNext have spoken out about this deal, so it’s all rumors for now. Google and Apple have both released their versions of 3D maps, so it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. The video above is a demo of UpNext’s maps for iPhone.
